Twinkie Update

Since getting the ‘all clear’ from Dr. Jess, Twinkie successfully underwent her big girl procedure at the Vet Clinic and was officially ready to make her big ‘available for adoption’ debut on social media!

Her post was very popular and got lots of attention from the community who had been following along with her story, though everyone seemed to know that our superstar would need a pretty special home.

Our team were becoming a bit disheartened when a week went by with no real enquiries into Twinkie’s adoption, but as always, we knew that her family would come along eventually.

And of course, three days later, along came a lovely lady named Sue and her daughter Jasmin.

Young Jasmine was searching for her very own companion and had seen Twinkie’s profile on our Facebook page. She knew straight away that the spunky little kitten that she read about would fit right in with herself, Sue and their senior Beagle named Fudge (another previous Blue Cross adoptee!).

Having been keeping an eye on her progress and saving up her pocket money for some time, it was meant to be that Miss Twinkie became available for adoption right in time for Jasmin’s 11th Birthday!

Jasmin and Sue knew Twinkie was the one for them as soon as they saw her and took her home that very afternoon.

After living a very comfortable life with our dedicated CEO, we were a little bit worried how Twinkie would adapt to her new life, but there was no need!

We have since received two lovely updates on how Twinkie is enjoying her new life. One three days after going home, and another a week later.

Here is Twinkie’s update on day three:

“Twinkie has settled in better than expected!

She is now letting us give her cuddles for a short time and is loving her walks outside.

The first night she was unsettled at bedtime and the only way I could get her to sleep was by putting a blanket over her carrier.

Yesterday when Jasmin went to school, she wasn’t overly impressed but did sleep more during the day. This morning when it was time to go, she meowed at the door a lot, so Jasmin put her in her carrier and she came with us! 🤷‍♀️”

And here is how she had settled after a week in her forever home:

“Twinkie has settled in really well. She is quite the character!

Jasmin and Twinkie have their routine sorted out. Jasmin takes her for a walk outside before school, after school and then after dinner. Twinkie loves it!

Twinkie and Fudge (our dog) are slowly getting used to each other. Fudge did steal Twinkie food once. She was very unimpressed and gave Fudge a swipe. We now keep the sliding door closed to the laundry where there is a cat door so Twinkie can go through. I was so proud of her; we showed her how to use it once and she got it perfectly!”

We couldn’t be happier for Twinkie and her new family after such an uncertain start to life.

Without the ongoing support of our community, we wouldn’t have been able to provide Twinkie with the help and treatment she needed to survive and go on to live a fulfilling and carefree life.
