Leo

If you’ve been following us for a while, you may recognize this little face that was often on our social media a few years ago while we tried to find him a home.
Three years later, though he is no longer searching for his person, Leo is still in our care. We are sharing his story in the hopes that our generous community will lend us their support so that we can continue to provide Leo with the care he needs in his treasured senior years.
On the 17th of March 2021, Leo came to Blue Cross after having been picked up as a stray. Though he was clearly anxious and a bit nervous with handling, he seemed to be a normal, friendly senior dog.
It wasn’t until the time came for potential adopters to come and meet Leo, that it became clear that he had decided that we were his people, and that he wouldn’t tolerate anyone else who attempted to win him over.
Despite the ‘red flags’ against his name, we gave Leo the benefit of the doubt and explored every possible avenue to try to rectify his poor choices.
8 months after he first arrived, Leo was lucky enough to be taken into a foster home with our trainer who had just joined the team. Sadly, it was soon decided that little Leo was not suitable to be rehomed to a member of the public due to his continued aggression towards dogs and unfamiliar people, though he has lived a very loved and pampered life in his foster home ever since.
Now at the wise age of 14, Leo has required a significant amount of care during his time with us including a major dental, treatment and ongoing management for pancreatitis, pain relief and monthly injections for arthritis management and specialist surgery to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee.
He has curated quite the list of costly items that he requires to keep him happy and healthy, and we could really use your help to continue to provide him with them.
If you would like to make a contribution to Leo’s retirement fund, you can make a monetary donation using the link below or the ‘support us’ tab on our website. We would also greatly appreciate donations of any of the goods on Leo’s shopping list! If you would be kind enough to have them sent straight to our shelter, our delivery address is 26 Homestead Rd, Wonga Park, 3115.
